Dunbia Dungannon have enjoyed a close relationship with Sperrinview Special School for a number of years. In particular we assist pupils from the school to enter the Young Enterprise NI competition, an event in which pupils works closely with a local business to learn how to present a Business Plan; showcasing their entrepreneurship in creating, producing, marketing and selling a consumable product in order to realise a profit. Dunbia were especially proud of the most recent entry which saw Sperrinview win Best Team Product.
During 2018, to celebrate the 150th year of the Balmoral Show, Dunbia, in conjunction with the Dexter Cattle Society sponsored a group of students from Riverside Special School with the aim of competing in the inaugural Riverside School Project. With expert advice from the cattle society and our own Agricultural officers, pupils proudly displayed their cattle in the Show ring. The event inspired a number of other local Special Schools to get involved and in 2019 Balmoral Show introduced a new Class to the Cattle Ring, ‘Special Schools Dexter Young Handlers’, a total of 5 schools will compete for the title. The young people enjoyed preparation training days which were held at Dunbia farms where staff, pupils and the Dexter’s got to know one another.
