Congratulations to our Group Commercial Sales Manager, Marc Murphy, who has been awarded Institute of Meat (IoM) accredited Master Butcher status at their Annual Prize-giving event, held at Butchers Hall, London on 24th February.
Marc is one of only 4 Master Butchers in Dunbia and one of less than 60 butchers in the UK to achieve this prestigious title.
The event, organised by the Institute of Meat (IoM) and The Worshipful Company of Butchers, has been running for almost 30 years. Celebrating individual achievement in the meat and poultry industry, this years’ event also served as a means of thanking outstanding members of an industry that has worked relentlessly throughout the pandemic to serve local communities and the wider British public.
Marc Murphy who has been working in the industry for 28 years, was presented with his award by HRH The Princess Royal, Past Master of The Worshipful Company and Fellow of the Institute of Meat. Presiding over the event was Keith Fisher (F.Inst.M), Chief Executive of the IoM and himself a fourth generation Master Butcher. Commenting on their achievement Fisher said,
‘Being granted Institute of Meat accredited Master Butcher status is one of the highest accolades a butcher can achieve. In almost three decades of the prize-giving we have accepted less than 60 applications for the Master Butcher award. The process of assessing an application is rigorous and in fact we only consider applications from the most experienced and skilful butchers.’
Asked what achieving the title of Master Butcher meant to him, Marc Murphy (MB.Inst.M) said,
“It is a great honour to be awarded the highest butchery accolade of Master Butcher from the Institute of Meat. This shows recognition for everything I have achieved in this industry since starting out as a Saturday boy when I was 12 years old. This would not have been possible without the support of family and my colleagues in Dunbia. Dunbia has some of the best trainers who support young trainees and set them on a long-term career path to become outstanding butchers.”.
Best wishes and continued success Marc!
Butchery is one of the oldest crafts in the world and is a highly skilled profession, steeped in tradition. Our butchers are professional meat cutters who are trained to cut, prepare and package a variety of meat products to the needs, standards and quality driven by the evolving tastes and trends of our customers. They are experienced in preparing meat to the highest of standards, so that it can be cooked and served for maximum tenderness and taste quality. At Dunbia we strive to maintain and grow our business each and every day and this would not be possible without the essential dedication and skill our butchers offer.
