Geoff Smith
Transport & Export Coordinator
What does your role involve?
A typical day for me predominantly involves getting sales onto the systems, organising transport, running through the export process, the organisation of frozen stock sales, checking of stocks, and the generation of various reports, as well as aiding other departments where possible.
How would you describe your experience of the graduate programme at Dunbia?
I would describe my graduate programme experience as incredibly diverse. I spent time in almost all departments onsite to gain a deep understanding of the various roles, as well as the challenges faced. This allowed me to network with everyone within the site.
I also had opportunities presented by the company to go on courses and trips, such as the graduate trip to Snowdonia to meet the rest of the graduates across the entire group that joined at a similar time.
The experience and opportunities I received from the graduate programme, developing a diverse knowledge across various departments and company processes, are what made me a suitable candidate for my current position at my current site.
What has been a highlight of your time working at Dunbia?
A highlight of my career so far has been my involvement in a University College Dublin course provided by Dunbia. It is aimed at developing management skills and knowledge, where we travelled to Dublin once a month over a 9-month period to hear from various industry experts and personnel from within Group. It was a great networking opportunity to meet colleagues and senior management from across our sites in Ireland and the UK. Whilst being incredibly informative on the state of the industry and group, it was also great fun.
Describe working at Dunbia in three words
Adaptable, fast-paced, interesting
What are you looking forward to in your role?
As I have just started a new role at a new site, I am looking forward to developing my job role and developing an understanding of the new site and operations involved.
