DUNBIA SUPPORT THE GREAT WALES YFC MENU

Guests of the Wales Federation of Young Farmers will be treated to an array of PGI Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef Canapes at their 80th Chairman’s Reception to be held at the Royal Welsh Show, thanks to the culinary talents of Wales YFC members.

The special competition launched by Wales YFC and supported by Dunbia, Hybu Cig Cymru and Fingers and Forks encouraged members to design a special menu of Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef canapes to be served to guests honouring 80 years of the Wales YFC movement.

Teams of members from across Wales competed to become cuisine champions and have their winning canapes served to the movements past Chairman and supporters of Wales YFC.

Judges Elwen Roberts, Hybu Cig Cymru and Shirley Friend, Fingers and Forks were extremely impressed with the standard of menus created by Wales YFC members.

The overall winning team was announced as Sian Healey and Raiff Devlin, members of Pontfaen YFC in Brecknock. Sian is a regular competitor of the YFC Cookery competition and enjoys working in the family run café in Builth Wells where as Raiff is relatively new to the world of creating fine cuisine and admits to being more at home in the family’s bakery but enjoyed putting his design skills to the test in creating the winning menu.

Upon winning the competition Sain Healey said;

“Raiff and I are delighted to win this special competition to celebrate Wales YFC’s special anniversary. We enjoyed creating our menu and when you have top class ingredients such as Dunbia supplied PGI Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef it’s easy to create exquisite food. We look forward to joining the Fingers and Forks team to make our canapes.”

Wales YFC are extremely grateful to Dunbia and Fingers and Forks for not only sponsoring this competition but for their overwhelming support that is received year on year which is testament of their commitment to Wales YFC and the next generation of food producers in Wales.”

Alison Harvey, Dunbia Agriculture Manager for Lamb, said; “Dunbia has been a proud supporter of Wales YFC for many years with many projects including our very successful Lamb Initiative which supports and educates young farmers in the production of quality Welsh lamb.  We are delighted to support the Canape competition as it focuses on the end product and the importance of ensuring the quality of the product during the cooking process. Sian & Raiff have created a superb menu which showcases the very best of PGI Welsh lamb and beef supplied by Dunbia.  Guests at the 80th Chairman’s Reception are in for a treat.”
