Held virtually for a second time, the evening of Monday 26th April saw the opening session of the annual Wales YFC Rural Affairs conference. Alison Harvey, Dunbia Agriculture Manager for Lamb and Mirain Thomas from the Livestock Procurement Team were joined by Matt Penfold, Sainsbury’s Agriculture Manager for Lamb and Poultry to discuss their involvement with the Welsh YFC Lamb initiative.

The YFC Lamb Initiative is a partnership between Sainsbury’s, Dunbia and Wales YFC with the aim of keeping Young Farmers at the forefront of the industry, while also creating a sustainable supply chain to help support the future of rural Wales. It was great to have representation from all partners to showcase the initiative and emphasise the potential to build, develop and sustain its future.

Attendees had a glimpse into consumer shopping habits and how lamb sales have thrived in Sainsbury’s over the last 12 months. The benefits of the initiative and working with Young Farmers in Wales was a key message throughout the evening. Delegates were given an insight into the history of the initiative, highlights seen so far, and its potential for the future.

The evening was shared with representatives from Lakes Free Range Eggs and Myrddin Heritage both inspirational speakers and it was great to engage with such a variation of topics in one evening.

The second part of the conference will be held on Wednesday evening (28th April) and there is still time to register here WWW.YFC.WALES/EVENTS/RURAL-AFFAIRS-CONFERENCE for a chance to hear inspiring speakers from across the agriculture industry: Dunbia are delighted to have once again been invited to take part in this event.
